  1. OCCUPY SASKATOON
GENERAL ASSEMBLY NOTES @ OCCUPY SASKATOON

The following is a summary of the activities of the General Assembly, held at 5:30 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2011, in Friendship Park, Saskatoon.

... • A second News Release was presented to and approved by the General Assembly. (It will likely be sent to the media on Tuesday or Wednesday.)
... • Members are encouraged to hand out the original handbills prepared for Occupy Saskatoon, after blacking out the things which have already happened. A new handbill design will be presented to the General Assembly tomorrow.
    • The Finance Working Group says Occupy Saskatoon has adequate funds. It was authorized to spend money on food which the Food Working Group needs.
(Note: Occupy Saskatoon appreciates the many kind donations of food, cash, and other items. Thank you, donors!)
    • The Police Liaison Committee will be posting information about individuals legal rights on trees in the Park.
(Note: Good relations with the Police continue!)
    • The General Assembly has approved some procedures for dealing with media presence at General Assembly meetings:
° Media members will be asked to identify themselves at the beginning of meetings.
° They will be asked if they are coming as part of their work, or if they are attending out of personal interest.
° They will be reminded that only those items explicitly approved by the General Assembly are Occupy Saskatoon decisions. Other comments express the opinion of the person speaking.
    • There was discussion of a possible liaison with the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (which is meeting this week in Saskatoon). The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Liaison Working Group will report tomorrow to the General Assembly.
    • The General Assembly was informed about the activities of the Saskatoon Anti-Poverty Coalition. One suggestion was that Occupy Saskatoon join the Anti-Poverty Coalition with it’s “Hands Across the Bridge” event on Friday. Participation will be discussed at tomorrow's General Assembly.
(Note: for more information about the Anti-Poverty Coalition’s activities see http://saskatoonantipovertycoalition.blogspot.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/pages/Saskatoon-Anti-Poverty-Coalition/170764632971670.
    • There will be a presentation on First Aid at tomorrow's General Assembly meeting, with special emphasis on hypothermia and burns.
    • Working Group reports will form the core of the agenda at each meeting of the General Assembly. People with concerns or interests to raise are asked to include those at the time of the relevant working group’s report.
    • The informal Site Committee has been made and official committee of the General Assembly.
